The University of Macau and the Macau University of Science and Technology have seen a sizable leap in their positions in this year’s QS World University Rankings.
The University of Macau (UM) and Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) have risen to 254th place and 505th place respectively in the 2024 QS World University Rankings.
In recent years, UM and MUST have been steadily climbing the annually published list. UM was originally placed between 651 and 700 in 2016, but was ranked at 322 in 2022, and at 304 in 2023.
MUST has also seen an upward trend, with a ranking in the 651 to 700 band in 2022, before jumping to the 581 to 590 grouping in 2023.

UM made headlines earlier this year when it took 193rd place in the 2024 university rankings published by Times Higher Education.
In 2023, it had been placed within the Times 201 to 250 tier. MUST however slid down to the 251 to 300 cohort in 2024, falling from its 2023 ranking in the 201 to 250 grouping.
Together with the Times Higher Education rankings and the Academic Ranking of World Universities, the QS World University Rankings is considered to be one of the premier lists for ranking tertiary education institutions worldwide.
