More than 3,500 short films and videos have been submitted to the curators of the XIV Macau International Short Film Festival and organisers say they expect “a few hundreds more” before the deadlines of the short film and music video competitions (16 June and 20 July respectively).

The official selection will be made by a jury of local and international directors, producers, film experts and other professionals, and exhibited to the public from 5 to 13 December at the Teatro Capitol.

Organisers say the festival aims to be a bridge, providing “international filmmakers with a cultural platform for the film and music industries and to exchange professional and creative experiences with their peers in Macao”.

The festival also intends to give “worldwide exposure for [filmmakers’] achievements in and from Macao”, organisers say.

Last year’s event saw 128 short films and music videos selected for exhibition, and cash prizes totalling 84,000 patacas given to winners of various categories.

The Macau International Short Film Festival is organised by the Institute of European Studies of Macau in conjunction with Creative Macau Center for Creative Industries. More information, including rules of entry, can be found at the festival website.
