Trains are now conducting test runs on the Taipa to Barra section of the Light Rail Transit (LRT), according to a statement from the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) cited in Macau Post Daily.
The tests follow last month’s completion of construction at Barra station, enabling the LRT to connect to the Macau peninsula. Currently, the LRT only operates on the 9.3-kilometre-long Taipa-Cotai line, which has 11 stations.
Raimundo do Rosário, the transport secretary, told lawmakers late last year that the government was hoping for services to Barra to commence at the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, Macau Post Daily said.

Trains would depart from Ocean station, currently the LRT’s western terminus, and run on the lower deck of the Sai Van Bridge.
Barra station was originally scheduled to be completed in November 2022 but was held up by the COVID-19 pandemic and severe weather. According to the DSOP website, the station cost 1.178 billion patacas to build.
