Health Bureau issues call for more blood donors Link copied
Covid-19 infectees can donate blood 14 days after their symptoms have subsided, says bureau, as concerns grow for stability of city’s blood supply.
People who have been infected with Covid-19 can donate blood 14 days after their symptoms have subsided, or the last positive nucleic acid test (NAT) or rapid antigen test (RAT) results of the novel coronavirus, the Health Bureau (SS) has announced, while putting out a call for more blood donors to come forward.
The bureau underlined that neither inactivated Covid-19 vaccines nor Germany’s BioNTech mRNA jabs affect blood donation.
Although there is no evidence that the novel coronavirus can be transmitted through blood transfusion, in order to ensure blood safety in Macao, donors are urged to notify the blood donation centre immediately if they are confirmed infected with Covid-19 within two weeks after their donation, or if they develop symptoms such as fever, cough, fatigue, muscle soreness, or diarrhoea.
According to the SS, the number of blood donors at the local blood donation centre, which is located on the second floor of Hotline Centre in Nape, has decreased significantly, in order to ensure patients’ demand for local blood transfusion services and maintain the stability of the city’s blood supply, the blood donation centre needs more support from residents taking the initiative to donate blood.
The blood donation centre has taken numerous preventive measures, such as periodic disinfection and cleaning of service delivery sites, to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection, The Macau Post Daily reported.
